LCISD Board Of Trustees Statement
“As a board we want to thank Dr. Brown for all the ways that she has impacted our district over the last 20 years. Her passion and investment, not only at LCISD, but in public education as a whole, has been evident to all, both in the way she has shared her experience and leadership, as well as in the relationships she has built. Serving alongside her, we have each experienced first hand her compassion, her friendship and her genuine love for our district and its students. Although we are sad to see her go, we know that she leaves a legacy of excellence and we wish her a world of success at Lake Dallas ISD, as well as any and all other future endeavors. Dr. Brown, just as we always tell our graduates that this will always be their home, today we say the same to you. You have been a blessing to all of us and we hope you come back “home” to visit often.”

On Monday, June 19, 2023 the Lyford CISD Board Of Trustees named Dr. Michelle DeWitt as the Interim Superintendent of Schools effective July 1, 2023.

Dr. DeWitt has served the Lyford CISD community for 16 years as a Teacher, Coach, Counselor, Assistant Principal, Principal and most recently as the Chief Academic Officer. Most recently, she obtained her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi.

Dr. DeWitt has been recognized at the local, state, and national level and has been invited to present on topics such as No cost on-the-job training experiences for senior students in career and technical education programs, Utilizing existing resources to provide a robust internship/practicum experience for rural students, Building a culture of self-advocacy and self-determination in students, and Using technology to enhance communication.

Additionally, Dr. DeWitt was one of 30 administrators from across the country selected to participate in the prestigious AASA Aspiring Female Superintendent’s Academy at the National Level.

Under Dr. DeWitt’s leadership as a principal, the class of 2022 was the first class in Lyford CISD history to reach 100% College and Career Readiness. Additionally, she has worked closely with teachers and administrators to redesign the LCISD Early Childhood Program (coming Fall 2023) and expand college programming through new partnerships with Texas Southmost College. Dr. DeWitt recently applied for a grant opportunity and was awarded the Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant designed to help districts purchase and install equipment necessary for the development of career and technical education (CTE) programs that lead to a license or certification in high demand occupations, which brought $57,881 to the district.

Lyford CISD is thankful to Dr. DeWitt for taking the leadership role as Interim Superintendent and continues to work with students, staff and parents to ensure that #GreatThingsHappenHere today and in the future.
